Owens Volleyball Captures AVCA Team Academic Award

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College women's volleyball team has been named as one of just 21 two-year schools to win the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

The award is given to schools who record at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Owens volleyball team, which recently won its fifth consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Team award, recorded a 3.58 team GPA, which is the highest in program history.

In fact, seven of the student-athletes on the team earned NJCAA All-Academic First, Second or Third Team recognition.

NOTES

The AVCA, which is in its 25th year of celebrating its team academic award, also announced that a record 822 teams earned the honor this year, breaking the previous year's total of 764.

Aside from Owens, the other 20 two-year schools to win the award were Allen County Community College, Barton County Community College, Central Community College, Clackamas Community College, Colby Community College, Cowley College, Fort Scott Community College, Glendale Community College (AZ), Hesston College, Indian River State College, Lake Land College, Linn-Benton Community College, Missouri State University-West Plains, Monroe College, North Platte Community College, Northwest College (WY), Pratt Community College, San Jacinto College-Central, Seward County Community College and Western Texas College.
