No. 3 Owens Stuffs Lorain County, Wins 29th Straight Conference Match

Elyria, Ohio---The No. 3 Owens Community College women's volleyball team remained hot by picking up a 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 win over Lorain County Community College on the road tonight to open Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.

With the win, Owens (5-0, 1-0 OCCAC) has now won its first 15 sets of the season for the first time since 2011. The team will be back in action this weekend in the Owens Invitational with a pair of matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Tonight, Owens scored the first nine points in the opening set. Jordan Alt (Ottawa-Glandorf/Ottawa, Ohio) and Michaela Eisenhauer (Margaretta/Castalia, Ohio), who led the team with nine and eight kills, respectively, got going early and often. Alt (.667) and Eisenhauer (.500) each also did their work efficiently.

Devon Heitkamp (New Bremen/New Bremen, Ohio) also had a big night offensively with six kills at a .417 clip. Erika Angstmann (St. Marys/St. Marys, Ohio) aded four, while Madison Lammers (New Knoxville/New Knoxville, Ohio), Ally Angstmann (St. Marys/St. Marys, Ohio) and Olivia Hermiller (Ottawa-Glandorf/Ottawa, Ohio) each also added three kills as Owens totaled 42 overall with a .429 percentage.

Carrigan Gray (Liberty-Benton/Findlay, Ohio) had a team-high 21 assists, while Summer Sweeting (South Central/North Fairfield, Ohio) added 10. Niki Polce (Huron/New Boston, Mich.), who also had five assists, led the way with 10 digs. Gray added eight, and Eisenhauer had seven. Lammers also had five digs. Alt and Heitkamp led the team with four assisted blocks.

NOTES

Owens is now off to its best start to a season since the 2011 team also opened 5-0 with 15 consecutive set wins. After losing its sixth match to Oakland Community College, that team started 23-1 and eventually went 45-5, which broke program records for fewest losses and highest winning percentage (.900) in a single season.

With its win tonight, Owens has now won 29 straight conference matches dating back to 2015.
