Owens Volleyball is Bound for National Semifinals

Charleston, WV-- After a long day of volleyball, the Owens Express are once again bound for the NJCAA Volleyball National Semifinals. The Express began their day, at 1:00 PM this afternoon, when they p;ayed #16 seed Harcum College. Owens easiy swept the match in three sets, winning 25-14, 25-13, 25-16. The Express moved to 38-0 on the season. 

Owens's second round opponent was the #9 seed, the Cowley County Tigers. Cowley County came into the match with a record of 37-6. The match was supposed to begin at 7:30 PM, but due to delays, the match did not start till approximately 9:30 PM. The late night affair would start out well for the Express. Owens won the first two sets 25-21 and 29-27. But the Tigers would come back winning the third set by a final of 29-27.

The fourth set got off to a rough start as well for Owens. At one point, the Express trailed 6-1 early in the set. But after a timeout by head coach Sonny Lewis, the team settled down, and they were able to come from behind to win 25-19 in the fourth set to win 3-1. 

The Express now advance the National Semifinals tomorrow evening, where they will take on Lincoln Land Community College. This is the second year in a row that the Express will be in the semifinals against Lincoln Land. The Express lost a heartbreaker a year ago, losing 3-0, but being close in all three sets. Lincoln Land is 36-6 on the season. They defeated Sauk Valley 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 27-25 to claim a 3-1 match victory.

The semifinals will begin at 6:30 PM EST tomorrow evening from the Charleston Civic Center.
