#2 Express Finish Weekend Undefeated Again

Toledo, OH -- The Owens Express Volleyball team continues to roll along. After two conference matches during the week, the Express has a quad meet on Saturday with Columbus St., College of DuPage, and Schoolcraft. 

On Friday evening, Owens took on Hocking College. The Express would win in straight sets, winning all three by double digits. Owens was led in kills by Michaela Eisenhauer, who had nine kills for the match. Summer Sweeting would finish in the team lead with assists with 19. Kiah Wendel would finish with the team lead in service aces at five for the match. Kennedy Ames was the leader in digs with four.

Saturday morning would bring a highly anticipated match between the #2 Express and #3 ranked Columbus State in Division III in the NJCAA. Owens and the Cougars would trade points for almost the entire first set. The Express would be able to get on a little bit of a point streak, which allowed the Express to win 25-21. Owens would start the second game with the early lead. They led by eight points midway through the second, before Columbus State stormed back. The Cougars finally caught the Express when they tied the score up 23-23. After an Owens timeout, the Cougars would take the final two point to tie the match up at 1-1 with a 25-23 win in the second set. 

Owens would dominate the third set, jumping out to a sizable lead and winning the third game 25-11. The fourth set was a tighter score, but Owens was able to go on a scoring run, and the Express beat the Cougars 25-17. 

The second match would be against the College of Dupage. The Express would win the first two games of the match of Dupage. DuPage would not go quietly though, with the Express falling in the third set 25-23. Owens would regroup and take the fourth set in a decisive manner, winning 25-10.

Owens would close their day with a match against Schoolcraft. The Express would make quick work of the Ocelots, winning in straight sets 25-9, 25-4 and 25-14.

The Express have now won 17 matches in a row after dropping their season opener. Owens is also 5-0 now in the OCCAC and they are atop the conference standings after dealing Columbus State their first conference loss today. Over the course of the win streak, the Express have only lost four sets in total. The team is 17-1 overall.

Owens Volleyball will be in action again this coming Wednesday September 19 when they host Edison. It will be the Express's last home match until Friday October 12. Wednesday's match begins at the SHAC at 6 PM.
