#1 Owens Clinches OCCAC Title, Prepare for Regionals

Toledo, OH -- With their 3-0 win over Clark State this past Friday, Owens Volleyball has clinched the outright OCCAC title for the fifth straight season. 

The Express played their regular season home finale this past Friday against the Eagles, taking a 3-0 victory to clinch the top spot in conference. Owens won the first set 25-19. The Eagles would test the Express in the second set, with Owens winning by two points at 25-23. The home team would take the final set 25-17 to secure the straight set victory. 

Tyriana Settles and Kayla Bekier turned in terrific performances on offense. Settled led the Express with 12 total kills for the match while Bekier would add ten kills of her own. Olivia Materni would lead the team in digs while Settles would have eight of her own. Rebecca Brown would tally 31 of the team's 32 assists in the match against the Eagles. Brown and McKinsey Finnen each had three ace serves a piece against Clark State as well. 

The Express moved to 33-4 overall and they are now 15-0 in the OCCAC. They have one more regular season game this coming Wednesday on the road at Sinclair. 

Owens will then prepare for the Region XII tournament next Saturday here at the SHAC. Owens will face off against Schoolcraft next Saturday in the Region XII semifinal. Should they beat the Ocelots, they will take on the winner of the other semifinal between Columbus State and Lorain. The time for the first match is set for 1 PM with championship match at 3 PM.

Notes

- Sonny Lewis is now two wins away from career win No. 700. With the win on Friday night, Coach Lewis now sits at 698 total wins. Should the Express win next Wednesday, he could achieve the mark as early at this coming weekend's Region XII tournament. His overall record is no 698-201.

- Owens has now won 75 consecutive OCCAC regular season matches dating back to October 2014.
