Owens Volleyball Adds Five For 2020 Season

Toledo, OH -- After winning a second consecutive national championship, the Owens Volleyball program added to its arsenal for the 2020 season. The Express signed five players from local high schools, whom will be asked to help the program in its attempt to claim a third consecutive national title. 

 

Alexis Sarvo. Swanton High School - Alexis Sarvo is a three sport athlete from Swanton High School. The senior helped her team to three consecutive sectional championships, as well as, a league title for Swanton during the 2017 season. She is also a member of the Swanton softball program. Sarvo was a member of the team the won the sectional championship in 2018. She also runs track for the Bulldogs. She was a member of the 2017 District Championship team and she placed fourth in the league in 4x400 and sixth in the 4x800.

 

 

Karly Bekier, Lake High School - The last name of Bekier should be familiar to Owens Volleyball fans. Karly Bekier, whose sister Kayla just finished her career with Owens, will look to take up where her sister left off. Bekier set a school record for the Flyers this season with 65 aces in a season. She was also named to the All-NBC Second Team. Bekier was also a member of the basketball team that won the NBC title last year as well. She also a star in the classroom, having been on the Honor Roll at Lake.  

 

 

Sydney Alford, Central Catholic High School - Sydney Alford will join the Express after playing for the Fighting Irish of Central Catholic during her playing career. Alford served a team captain for her squad at Central, and she was also a captain for her AAU team, which won the West Coast National Championship. She was an Honorable Mention All-TRAC selection this season, and she also was also a Second Team All-District selection. 

 

 

Sydnie Meinke, Clay High School - Sydnie Meinke will join Owens after her high school career at Clay is through. She was an Honorable Mention All-TRAC selection this season for an Eagles team that finished as District Runner-Up. She also has excelled in track, making it the Regional Meet the last two years for pole vaulting. Meinke has also been very successful in the classroom as well. She is a member of the National Honors Society, a four year Honor Roll student, and she has competed in several state academic competitions for medical technologies and student government. 

 

 

Delaney Thomas. Norwalk High School - Delaney Thomas will become a member of the Express after graduating from Norwalk High School. The senior was an All-SBC Honorable Mention this past season and a Third Team All-District Selection. She also was named to the District's All-Star team. In 2017, she was a Second Team All-SBC member and Honorable Mention All-District. Thomas was also a four year varsity letter winner. Academically, she has been on the school's Merit Roll.
