Miles Pours In 23 As Team Toledo Upends Owens Men 96-91 In Front Of 1,000

Toledo, Ohio---Former Libbey High School star Nate Miles poured in 23 points to lead Team Toledo to a 96-91 win over the Owens Community College men's basketball team in front of 1,000 people in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) at Owens tonight.

The first annual scrimmage featured former Owens men's basketball players Larry Logan Jr., who played NCAA Division I basketball at Centenary after his two years at Owens, and Ronnell Isom, a Libbey High School graduate. 

Leading all scorers, though, was Miles. He shot 9-for-15 from the field. Darrion Griffin (Toledo Scott) also chipped in 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Logan tallied 13 points and eight rebounds, and Isom had 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.

For Owens, Kenny Jones (Clay/South Bend, Ind.) had 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Edmond Early Jr. (Thurgood Marshall/Dayton, Ohio) had 15 points, three assists and two steals. In fact, Early had a key late steal and lay-in to pull Owens within one.

Other leaders for Owens were: Shaakir Lindsey (Teaneck/Teaneck, N.J.) had 12 points, three assists and four steals; Darren Groves (Thurgood Marshall/Dayton, Ohio) with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal; John Murry (North Central/Indianapolis, Ind.) with nine points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.

Team Toledo was helped by a 33-for-65 (50.8 percent) finish from the field, including a 7-for-19 (36.8 percent) from 3-point range. On the other side, Owens went 34-for-84 (40.5 percent) from the field and 9-for-31 (29 percent) from 3-point range.

The event was attended by approximately 1,000 people and featured halftime giveaways.

The Owens men's basketball team has one more scrimmage before opening the 2014-15 season against Ivy Tech Community College at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.
