Elmwood's George Signs With Owens Softball, Joins Talented Recruiting Class

Toledo, Ohio---Lindsay George, a 5-6 infielder from Elmwood High School in Bloomdale, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Owens Community College next year.

George, who has seen time at first base, third base and catcher during her time at Elmwood, hit. 539 as a junior with 19 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 32 RBI. She helped lead the Royals to lague championships as a freshman and junior and a regional final appearance her sophomore year.

"Lindsay comes from a very strong program," said Owens Community College softball head coach Marcus Smith. "She also comes from an athletic family. Individually, she has a big bat and features lots and lots of potential. She is a very good athlete."

As a junior, George was named First Team All-Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC) as a catcher, as well as being named First Team All-District and Second Team All-Ohio. As a sophomore, she was named Second Team All-NBC as a third baseman.

In addition to softball, George is also a member of the volleyball and basketball teams, where she has earned five combined varsity letters.

Academically, George is a National Honor Society member, an Academic All-District selection and an honor roll student.

George is the ninth member of next year's recruiting class. She joins Noel Gilley (RHP/1B) of Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville, S.C., Courtney Cadle (SS) of Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., Josie Monroe (C) of Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio, Alexa Schmeltz (3B) from Eastwood High School in Pemberville, Ohio, Mikayla Ludwig (RHP) of Walter Wellborn High School in Anniston, Ala., Ronni VanSteenkiste-Amador (Util.) of Blissfield High School in Blissfield, Mich., Oliviah Banister (IF) of Wauseon High School in Wauseon, Ohio, and Megan Ewing (Util.) of Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ohio.

The Owens softball team, which captured Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Region XII championships last year en route to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament appearance, will open its 2016 season March 4-13 in Florida. They are scheduled to play 20 games during the trip.
