Harley's Triple-Double Leads No. 3 Owens To 89-70 Win Over No. 16 Cincinnati State

Cincinnati, Ohio---Sierra Harley (Africentric/Columbus, Ohio) had a triple-double, and Ashley Tunstall (Huber Heights Wayne/Dayton, Ohio) had 17 points in the second half to lead the No. 3 Owens Community College women's basketball team to an 89-70 win over No. 16 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College on the road today.

With today's outcome, Owens is now 22-1 overall and 7-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.

With its 22nd straight win, Owens now holds the nation's longest winning streak and has a chance to move up to No. 2 in the nation next week due to the nation's No. 1 team, Johnson County Community College, losing today. No. 2 Parkland also won today.

Early on, Owens jumped out to a 9-2 lead with all nine points coming from Harley and Tunstall. Cincinnati State responded and took a 12-9 lead. Then, with 11:21 left, Cincinnati State held a two point lead, but Demy Whitaker's (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, Ohio) corner 3-pointer gave Owens a 17-16 lead.

Owens never trailed again, although Cincinnati State tied it at 17 before Owens went on 6-0 and 12-2 runs to take a 29-19 lead with 4:30 left. Later, Owens closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 10 point lead into halftime.

In the second half, Owens jumped on Cincinnati State from the start despite Jasmine Watson's jumper to open the half. Up 38-30 with 19:36 left in the half, Tunstall spurred an 8-1 run to give her team a 46-31 lead with 17:48 left.

At the midway point of the second half, back-to-back layups from Harley and Tunstall gave Owens its largest lead of the game at 66-42. With 5:46 left, Tunstall's layup made it a 24-point lead once again and Owens used its bench from there.

After a 31 percent finish from the field as a team in the first half, Owens shot a blistering 19-for-33 (57.6 percent) in the second half, including a 4-for-8 finish from long range.

Tunstall led all scorers with a career-high 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting. She also finished 9-for-14 from the foul line, while adding a game-high six steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Harley, meanwhile, produced 22 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, a game-high 10 assists and three steals. She went 8-for-15 from the field (2-for-4 from 3-point range) and 4-for-5 from the foul line.

Whitaker had a big game off the bench with 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting. She made 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Courizma Williams (Hughes/Cincinnati, Ohio) added 11 points, five steals and a game-high five blocks in front of her hometown fans.

Briana Williams (Stebbins/Dayton, Ohio) and Kheri Motley (West Bloomfield/West Bloomfield, Mich.) each added seven rebounds, while Mikayla Ward (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) had three blocks.

Jonessa Moore led Cincinnati State with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Samia Carter added 17 points, while Kasia Cicha had 15. KayKay Williams added 12 rebounds off the bench.

Cincinnati State fell to 13-9 overall and 4-3 in OCCAC play with the loss.

Owens will conclude its five game road trip on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Cuyahoga Community College.

Notes

Today was Tunstall's third game this year with 20 or more points. Her previous career-high in points came against Mott Community College on Dec. 3 of this season. Today also marked the third time this year she has totaled six steals, although her four rebounds tied a season-low. Her point total also pushed her past 600 career points, and she will take her total of 603 into Wednesday's game. She is 33 rebounds away from 500 in her career.

Whitaker's 18 point game was her bext game since scoring 19 on Jan. 17 vs Edison. It was the seventh time this year she has 15 or more points in a game.

Courizma Williams now has double digit scoring outputs in three of the past five games. Her block total was a season-high, and her assist total was one off her season-high.

Harley has now reached double figures in 14 straight games and 21 of 23 this year. She is averaging a team-high 15.7 points per game. Her rebound total bested her previous season-high of 12 on Jan. 14 vs Cuyahoga by one. Her previous season-high in assists was seven on Jan. 5 vs Roane State.

The team's 22 game winning streak extends a program record.
