Tunstall, Harley Each Produce Double-Double, No. 2 Owens Wins 23rd Straight

Cleveland, Ohio---Ashley Tunstall (Huber Heights Wayne/Dayton, Ohio) powered her way to 19 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 2 Owens Community College women's basketball team extended its nation best win streak to 23 with a 101-56 decision over Cuyahoga Community College on the road tonight.

Tunstall was nearly perfect as the sophomore forward finished 9-for-10 from the field. Four of her rebounds came on the offensive end, while she added three steals and two assists.

Early on, Owens jumped out to a 14-4 lead behind as Sierra Harley (Africentric/Columbus, Ohio) picked up seven points in the game's first 3:20. Harley would finish with 11 points in the half as Owens took a 46-31 lead at the break.

In the second frame, Owens came out strong and pushed its lead to 27 just over five minutes into the half. Behind Tunstall's 13 second half points, Owens then cruised to its second win over Cuyahoga this year.

Aside from Tunstall, Harley also picked up a double-double as the freshman guard had 16 points, a season-high 11 assists, seven rebounds and four steals. She finished just three rebounds shy of her second straight triple-double.

Demy Whitaker (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, Ohio), who picked up the start after coming off the bench the past three games, added 11 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals. 

Courizma Williams (Hughes/Cincinnati, Ohio) led the bench in scoring with 14, while adding six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. The freshman guard currently leads the conference in blocked shots per game.

Aside from Williams, Imani Vickers (Mansfield Senior/Mansfield, Ohio) added 11 points and four assists off the bench. 

As a team, Owens shot 39-for-89 (43.8 percent) from the field and 9-for-27 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range. They produced 25 offensive rebounds in the game, while only coughing up 14 turnovers.

Owens is now 23-1 overall and 8-0 in OCCAC play. Tonight completed a five game road trip for the team, and they will return home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup against Sinclair Community College.

Cuyahoga fell to 6-11 overall and 3-5 in OCCAC play.

Notes

Over the past four games, Harley is averaging 19.5 points on 28-for-57 shooting, along with 8.8 rebounds, nine assists and 4.5 steals per game.

LaKayra Carlisle (Pershing/Detroit, Mich.) returned the action tonight after missing the team's past six games. The sophomore forward had eight points in six minutes of play.

Owens swept the season series from Cuyahoga with tonight's win, and they did so by a 46 point average margin of victory.
