Toledo, Ohio --- The Owens Community College basketball teams are looking to cap off the regular season in winning fashion against Cincinnati State Technical and Community College on Saturday.

No. 2 Owens Women Go For History

The No. 2 Owens women (28-1, 13-0 OCCAC) will go for history against their most heated rival. Should they win, they would tie the single season record for most wins (29) currently held by the 1997-98 team. They are currently tied with the 2012-13 and 1996-97 teams for the second highest single season win total in program history.

Furthermore, no Owens women's basketball team in program history has went undefeated in conference play during the regular season, and this year's team could do that with a win Saturday. Also, the team is trying to extend three current streaks: a 28-game overall winning streak, a 43-game regular season home winning streak and a 21-game regular season conference winning streak.

With their 90-67 win over Columbus State on Monday, the team clinched its third straight OCCAC title. It is also the team's fourth title in the past five years. Following Saturday's game, the team will open postseason play against the winner of Sinclair Community College and Lakeland Community College in the Region XII District I semifinals on March 6 at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio.

Owens previously defeated Cincinnati State 89-70 on Jan. 31. They led by as many as 24 in the second half.

No. 14 Owens Men Look To Clinch Second Straight OCCAC Title

The men's basketball program, meanwhile, is looking to avenge an 86-73 loss to No. 11 Cincinnati State earlier this season and clinch a share of the OCCAC title, which would give them back-to-back regular season titles for the first time since 2000-02.

Also, with the win, Owens would clinch one of the top two seeds in next weekend's Region XII District 11 tournament, which would give them a bye through the quarterfinals.

Currently, Owens, Lakeland Community College, and Cincinnati State are all tied for first place in the conference at 11-2. Should Owens and Lakeland (hosting Columbus State Community College at 1 p.m.) win this weekend, Lakeland would hold the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed. Owens would then get the No. 2 seed and take on the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 3 seed Cincinnati State and No. 6 seed Columbus State.

If Lakeland and Cincinnati State win, Cincinnati State will receive the No. 1 seed with two wins over Owens. Lakeland will then get the No. 2 seed. Owens would end up with the No. 3 seed and play Columbus State Community College in a quarterfinal matchup at home on March 3.

With an Owens win and a Lakeland loss, Owens would then take the No. 1 seed leaving the No. 2 seed to Lakeland and the No. 3 seed going to Cincinnati State. With the No. 1 seed, Owens would take on the winner of a quarterfinal matchup between Sinclair Community College and Cuyahoga Community College in the semifinals on March 6 at Ohio Christian University.

If Lakeland loses and Cincinnati State wins, Cincinnati State will take No. 1 seed, Lakeland will get the No. 2 seed with 1 win over Cincinnati State, and Owens will end up with the No. 3 seed.

Red Out, Sophomore Day, Big E and Free Pizza!

Owens is hosting a Red Out for the games on Saturday by asking fans to wear as much red as possible. Come early and be loud!

The women's basketball team will be holding a pre-game ceremony for their five sophomores, Ashley Tunstall (Huber Heights Wayne/Dayton, Ohio), LaKayra Carlisle (Pershing/Detroit, Mich.), Zhana Randolph (Rochester/Rochester Hills, Mich.), Kheri Motley (West Bloomfield/West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Imani Vickers (Mansfield Senior/Mansfield, Ohio).

The Owens mascot, Big E, will be in attendance for both games on Saturday. He will entertain the crowd and hand out free stuff all day.

All Owens students and faculty will be able to have free pizza courtesy of the Owens men's basketball program.
