Burkholder, Kreger Lead Express Women Past No. 11 Muskegon 2-1

Muskegon, MI---Jill Burkholder and Haley Kreger each scored a goal as the Express women's soccer team defeated No. 11 Muskegon Community College 2-1 today.

Kreger scored about 20 minutes into the game as the Express took an early 1-0 lead. Burkholder then had a collision to the right of the penalty box near the end of the first half with a Muskegon defender, maintained her balance and lofted a shot over the goalkeeper's head to pad the lead.

Up 2-0 at the half, the Express defense held Muskegon down until midway through the second half when the Jayhawks scored to pull within one midway through the half. The Express, however, held off Muskegon to get the win.

Erika Brinkman started in goal for the Express. She made several saves, including a diving save to her right in the second half.

Notes

The Express got a little revenge as Muskegon ended the season for the Express last year in the Region XII tournament with a last minute goal...Burkholder now has three goals in the season's first two games...Kreger's goal was her first of the season...Jessica Grindle got her first assist of the season on Kreger's goal...Burkholder's goal was unassisted...the Express are now 2-0 and will next play on Aug. 31 beginning at 3 p.m. at Jackson Community College
