Grindle's 20th Goal Propels No. 19 Express Women to Region XII Title Game

Toledo, Ohio---Jessica Grindle's (Northwood/Northwood, Ohio) goal in the 61st minute proved to be the difference as the No. 19 Express women's soccer team defeated Delta College 2-0 in the Region XII semifinals today.

The game was scoreless through the first half before Grindle took a through ball from Haley Gasser (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) and deposited it into the right corner of the net for what became the game-winner.

Jill Burkholder (Bryan/Bryan, Ohio) would add a goal off a penalty kick at the 76:05 mark to give a little cushion for the Express.

Erika Brinkman (Kalida/Cloverdale, Ohio) played the entire game in goal for the Express. She made two saves. Destiny Wallace made nine saves in goal for Delta.

The Express out-shot Delta (10-7-1 overall) 19-1 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

Grindle's goal was the 20th of the season for her, which is a team-high. It was also the 26th goal of her career, which puts her in sole possession of second place in career goals scored.

Gasser's assist was her team-high 10th of the season. She has 26 career assists, which is a program record.

Burkholder's goal was her 13th of the season, which is second on the team behind Grindle. She has 21 career goals.

The Express (16-2) have now won 14 straight and will take on Cincinnati State Technical and Community College for the Region XII championship tomorrow at 12 p.m. The tournament is behind held at Owens Community College.

Today's win was the first in Region XII tourney play for the Express women's soccer program, who were 0-2 heading into today's tilt.
