Pair Of Second Half Goals Propel No. 8 Owens Past Muskegon 2-0

Toledo, Ohio---The No. 8 Owens Community College women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to secure a 2-0 win over Muskegon Community College at home today.

Kendyl Christian (Clay/Oregon, Ohio) scored the game-winner at the 53:15 mark on an assist from Haley Malaczewski (Central Catholic/Toledo, Ohio). Malaczewski passed the ball up to Christian in front of box, and Christian booted it past the goalkeeper with her right foot.

Later, Owens added an insurance goal at the 81:55 mark when Amber Burnette (Oak Harbor/Graytown, Ohio) took another pass from Malaczewski and deposited it past the keeper.

Owens out-shot Muskegon 11-3 on the day. Chelsie Randolph (Start/Toledo, Ohio) made three saves for Owens as she produced her first collegiate shutout, while Haley Twigg stopped eight shots for Muskegon. 

Owens (2-1-1) won their second straight match with the shutout. Additionally, they improved to 2-0 in Region XII play heading into next weekend's action, which will include a road tilt on Saturday against Delta College and a home match against Cincinnati State Technical and Community College on Sunday. Saturday starts at 1 p.m., while Sunday's match starts at 3 p.m.

Notes

Christian finished the weekend with two goals, while Malaczewski finished with three assists. The duo paired up for a goal-assist combination once in each game this weekend. Christian now leads the team in goals scored, and Malaczewski leads in assists.

Christian pushed her career goal total to 12 this weekend. Burnette's goal was her first of the season and sixth of her career.
