Toledo, Ohio---Kathryn Spalding, a defender/midfielder from Central Catholic High School, has signed with the Owens Community College women's soccer program.

The 5'9" Spalding played the centerback and midfield positions for the Fighting Irish, where she earned Honorable Mention All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) honors as a junior and senior, as well as Honorable Mention All-District honors as a senior.

The Toledo resident becomes the fifth member of next year's freshmen class. She joins Jenna Kidd (Clay H.S.), Lynzee Richardson (Napoleon H.S.), Kelsey Combs (Anthony Wayne H.S.), Catie Phalen (Lake H.S.) and Kaleigh Strausbaugh (Bowling Green H.S.).

The Owens women's soccer team finished 14-5-2 this past fall under the guidance of first-year head coach Kenny Hewitt, who led the team to its second straight appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I national tournament. The team also captured its second straight Region XII tournament championship

Notes

Once Spalding joins the team in the fall, she will become the third player in program history from Central Catholic to play for the Owens women. She will follow Haley Malaczewski, who played for Owens this past year after transferring from Bowling Green State University, and Malaysia Wright, who played for Owens in the 2011 season.
