Owens Volleyball Splits Four Matches Against Some Of Nation's Top Ranked Teams

Champaign, Ill.---The Owens Community College women's volleyball team hit the road for matches against No. 1 Parkland, No. 7 Kirkwood and No. 13 Iowa Central, as well as Rock Valley College this weekend and came away with a 2-2 record.

Friday: Owens d. Rock Valley College 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19

Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) produced 22 kills as Owens got the weekend off to a good start. Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) added 13 kills, and Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) had six.

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) had a team-high 32 assists. Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) added 16. Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) had a team-high 23 digs, and Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) had 12.

Reigelsperger led the team in blocks with five assisted.

Friday: No. 1 Parkland d. Owens 17-25, 26-28, 17-25

Reigelsperger led the way in kills in Friday's nightcap against the nation's top team. She finished with nine, while Hartings added eight. Mikesell and Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.) each had five of their own.

Cooper and Smith each had a team-high 14 assists. Wirick had 13 digs. Reigelsperger had one solo block and four assisted blocks.

Parkland is currently 23-1 overall this year.

Saturday: No. 7 Kirkwood d. Owens 12-25, 24-26, 20-25

Reigelsperger led the team with 12 kills, while Mikesell (7), Hartings (6) and Kipp (6) also chipped in. Cooper (19) and Smith (14) led the way in assists, while Wirick had a team-high 17 digs. Cooper (9), Smith (8) and LaVoy (8) also helped out in digs.

The team only produced four blocks against Kirkwood, led by one solo and one assisted from Kipp.

Kirkwood is now 14-3 overall, but one of those losses is to No. 1 Parkland.

Saturday: Owens d. No. 13 Iowa Central 25-21, 25-18, 25-23

Reigelsperger continued her fine play as she totaled a team-high 13 kills, as well as five digs, to help Owens upset the nation's 13th ranked team. Hartings (9) and Kipp (6) also added some help in kills.

Smith (20) and Cooper (17) led the way in assists. Wirick (13) and LaVoy (10) led in digs, while Smith and Cooper added five digs apiece in addition to Reigelsperger.

Mikesell had two solo and two assisted blocks, while Reigelsperger had one solo and three assisted blocks.

Looking Ahead

Owens is now 15-7 overall. They will take their 6-1 conference record into a road match against Edison Community College on Wednesday.
