Angola, IN---The Express men's golf team continued to rack up the accolades this weekend as they took first place in the Ken Venturi Invitational at Trine University.

The win marks their third tournament win in four events, although one was cut short due to rain. They finished second in their other invitational.

"This is a wonderful accomplishment," said Express head golf coach Josh Williams. "We haven't even played any junior colleges yet. We've beaten NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, as well as NAIA D-I's."

The team shot a 193 - 20 under par, which was 10 strokes better than Trine's A team in second place. Since the inception of Trine's Invitational, no team has shot better or equaled the 20 under par finish Owens achieved this year.

The event was a Ryder Cup format in which holes 1-6 was scramble, 7-12 was best ball, and 13-18 was alternate shot. The pairings for the Express were Timothy Dawkins and Blaze Hogan, Darren Gessner and Luke Berger, and Jason Glass and Brandon Hoelzer.

Glass and Hoelzer took home lowest scoring duo in the competition with an eight under 63. The other two groups each shot a 65 (-6).

Gessner and Berger took home the lowest score in the Alternate Shot round.

The final team scores were:

Owens CC - 193
Trine A - 203
Ohio Northern University - 209
Trine B - 211
Trine D - 213
Trine C - 217
Rochester University - 218
Lourdes University - 219
Trinity College - 226
Cleary University - 239

The Express will next play in an invitational on Oct. 4 at Indiana University - East.
