Angola, IN---The Express golf team vaulted to No. 2 in the nation earlier this week. Today, Luke Berger and the rest of his teammates showed the ranking isn't a fluke with another first place finish in the Bill Gettig Invitational at Trine University's Zollner Golf Course.

The Express shot a 290 to finish 11 strokes ahead of Alma College. Olivet College (306), Trine University (307) and Calumet College (307) rounded out the top five.

Berger shot a team and tournament best 70. Calumet College's Tyler Nicol also shot a 70 to tie Berger.

Blaze Hogan (72), Brandon Hoelzer (74), Walter Dorosh (74) and Timothy Dawkins (76) rounded out the scoring for the Express in their top five.

As individuals, Darren Gessner shot a 73 and Jason Glass shot a 79. Thus, all Express golfers shot a 79 or better.

Hogan's 72 was good for fourth place, while Gessner's 73 earned him a tie for 5th place. Hoelzer and Dorosh finished tied for 8th.

Notes

Earlier this week, the Express moved up to second in the nation in the NJCAA D-II poll, just behind South Mountain Community College. It is their highest ranking in program history.

The Express was the only two-year school in the field. They also won Trine's fall invitational earlier this season.

The victory marks the ninth tournament championship (of 11 played) for the Express since the fall season began. In spring play, they have captured all five of their tournaments.

The Express will play each of the next two days. On Sunday, they play in the Lorain County Invitational before taking part in the Lakeland Community College Invitational on Monday.
