Hammond, Ind.---The Owens Community College men's golf team shot a 309 in today's second and final round of the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite at Lost Marsh Golf Course to finish second overall with a 613.

Led by Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.), who shot a 71-73-144 over two rounds, Owens finished nine strokes behind first place Carthage College and one stroke ahead of third place Purdue Calumet. In fact, Purdue Calumet shot the tournament's best round today with a 298, up from their first round 316.

Aside from Long, who finished second overall, Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) shot a 73-79-152 to tie for seventh place. In three tournaments so far, the freshman has finished no lower than seventh.

Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) shot a 79-77-156 for a 15th place finish, while Christian Bienaime (Lake Brantley/Altamonte Springs, Fla.) shot an 82-80-162 to tie for 21st place. Wyatt Spalding (Summerfield/Petersburg, Mich.) fired an 81-82-163 to finish tied for 25th.

Calumet College's Anthony Rubino shot a 72-71-143 to earn medalist honors.

Owens will be back in action on Sept. 28 in the Defiance College Fall Invitational.

Notes

Today's third place finish was an improvement over last year's third place finish. Additionally, last year's team shot a two-round total of 622, so this year's team finished nine strokes better. Following that third place finish last year, however, the team rattled off nine straight tournament championships.
