Rochester, NY---The Express women's soccer team struggled to adjust to the turf field in the first half against No. 6 Monroe Community College in a 3-0 loss on the road.

Margaret Doyle scored just 3:31 into the match on a header to give Monroe the early lead. Then, in the 13th minute, Ally Sharpe scored another for Monroe.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Monroe took a 3-0 lead with a PK goal.

About two minutes later, Jill Burkholder had a chance to score for the Express, but her shot got deflected by Monroe's goalkeeper off the crossbar.

Later, Kendra Eitniear had a chance on a breakaway, but failed to capitalize. Overall, though, Express head coach Mary Whisler was pleased with the way her team responded in the second half.

"Overall, Monroe's a very good team, but I'm happy we figured things out in the second half, we competed and took away some positive things from the game," Whisler said.

With 13 healthy players on the roster, Whisler added that her team played very well considering.

Goalkeeper Erika Brinkman made 12 saves in the game for the Express, while Monroe had 15 shots on goal compared to four for the Express. Burkholder (2), Elizabeth Theaker and Drew Plummer had the shots on goal for Owens.

The Express (2-1) will travel to North East, PA tomorrow for a 1 p.m. matchup against Mercyhurst North East Community College.
