Cooper's 22 Assists Lead Owens Volleyball Past Cincinnati State In Straight Sets

Toledo, Ohio---Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) produced 22 assists and five digs to lead the Owens Community College women's volleyball team past Cincinnati State Technical and Community College 25-14, 25-16, 25-18 in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) tonight.

Cooper also added one assisted block, while Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) and Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) led the team in kills with 13 and 10, respectively.

In addition to Cooper's 22 assists, Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) added 17 of her own, while two others picked up one apiece.

Amara Hemenway (Bellevue/Bellevue, Ohio) and Smith each had a team-high three aces. In fact, Hemenway was crucial in swinging the first set in favor of Owens. With Cincinnati State holding a 9-6 lead, Hemenway served eight straight points to give Owens a 14-9 lead.

Cooper added two aces, overall, as well.

Reigelsperger had a team-high 10 digs, while Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) had nine and Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) had eight. Cooper and Smith also each had five.

Hemenway, Reigelsperger and Kayla Siefker (Kalida/Ottawa, Ohio) each had one solo block apiece. Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.), Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) and Reigelsperger each had two assisted blocks apiece.

Next Up

Owens (12-4 overall, 5-0 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference) will travel to Columbus tomorrow for a 12 p.m. matchup with No. 14 Columbus State Community College. The Cougars enter the match undefeated, while both teams are tied at the top of the OCCAC standings. Owens is 5-0 in OCCAC play, and Columbus State is 4-0 (8-0 overall).

Notes

With tonight's match, Cooper eclipsed the 300 assist mark this season. She sits at 305. Meanwhile, Smith is close to breaking that mark, as well, as she has 297. Reigelsperger (190) and Hartings (177) are approaching 200 kills. Wirick leads the team with 224 digs, while Reigelsperger is second with 150.

Owens has now won six straight matches, all in straight sets, to set up tomorrow's showdown with undefeated Columbus State.
