Wirick Produces 24 Digs, But Owens Volleyball Loses Five Set Battle To No. 14 Columbus State

Columbus, Ohio---Despite 29 combined kills from the duo of Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) and Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio), the Owens Community College women's volleyball team fell in five sets to No. 14 Columbus State Community College 25-21, 17-25, 27-25, 23-25, 10-15.

Hartings totaled 16 kills, while Reigelsperger added 13. Amara Hemenway (Bellevue/Bellevue, Ohio) had nine of her own, as well. Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) and Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) led the team in assists with 27 and 19, respectively.

Cooper, who also led the team with five aces, had 11 digs. Leading the way in digs, though, was Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) with 24. Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) added 11, and Reigelsperger had 10. Smith was close to double figures with nine.

Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.) had the team's two solo blocks, while she also added an assisted block. Ally Miksell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) had a team-high three assisted blocks. Hemenway and Reigelsperger each added two.

Columbus State remained undefeated with the win at 9-0 overall and 5-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, while Owens fell to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in OCCAC play. The two teams will meet again, at Owens, on Oct. 25. It will be the final conference match of the season.

Owens will be back in action at home on Sept. 17 against Cuyahoga Community College, which will be a conference matchup. The team then travels to Illinois for the Parkland Invitational next weekend.
