Mikesell's Big Night Pushes No. 16 Owens Past Cincinnati State In Four

Cincinnati, Ohio---Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) had 17 digs, along with seven kills and two blocks to lead the No. 16 Owens Community College women's volleyball team past Cincinnati State 25-14, 31-29, 19-25, 25-14 on the road tonight.

In addition to Mikesell, Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) produced a career-high 32 digs. Mikesell's 17 digs is just three off her season-high of 20 against St. Clair County on Sept. 6.

Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) produced a team-high 18 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) and Amara Hemenway (Bellevue/Bellevue, Ohio) each also added 10 kills. Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.) had eight, too.

Assisting Wirick and Mikesell in digs were Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) with 10 and Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) with nine. Reigelsperger had a team-high six blocks, while Hartings added three.

While Hartings was hitting a team-high .419, Kipp was next up at .368, followed by Sara Turner-Smith (Cardinal Stritch/Toledo, Ohio) with three kills (.400), Mikesell (.312) and Reigelsperger (.304).

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) had a team-high 28 assists, while Smith added 19.

As a team-high, Owens produced a season-high of 89 tonight. Their 61 kills was the third highest single match total, as well.

One key stat from tonight's match was the team's hitting percentage. In sets 1, 2 and 4, the team hit .212, .327 and .237. In the only set they lost, they hit .086 with 10 errors on 13 kills and 35 attacks.

Most importantly, with tonight's win, Owens is now 31-8 overall and 12-1 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, and they set up a shot for a share of an OCCAC championship with tomorrow's 12 p.m. match at home vs No. 8 Columbus State Community College (26-1, 13-0 OCCAC). Should Owens defeat Columbus State, both teams will share the conference title, while Columbus State is looking for an outright championship with a win.

With tonight's loss, Cincinnati State falls to 16-16 overall and 6-7 in OCCAC play.

Notes

With tonight's big match, Hartings is inching closer to her fomer high school teammate, Reigelsperger, for the team-high in kills. Reigelsperger has 456, while Hartings has 453. 

Wirick eclipsed 600 digs this season with tonight's career-high effort. She now has 625 digs this year and 962 in her career.

Cooper now has 1,453 career assists as she inches closer to the 1,500 mark. She has 788 this year, and recently eclipsed 100 career aces.
