Toledo, Ohio---The No. 16 Owens Community College women's volleyball team couldn't overcome a litany of errors in a 17-25, 19-25, 25-17, 19-25 loss to No. 8 Columbus State Community College at home today in the regular season finale.

With the win, Columbus State improved to 28-1 overall and 14-0 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). They clinched the outright title, while Owens fell to 31-9 overall and 12-2 in OCCAC play.

On offense, Owens committed 23 errors en route to a .126 attack percentage. They couldn't make passes consistently either as shown by eight ball handling errors. Finally, nine service errors doomed any further chance they had.

Individually, Macy Reigeslperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) hit a team-high .348 with 12 kills and only four errors in 23 attempts. Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) added 11 kills, and Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) had six kills.

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) finished with a team-high 20 assists. Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) had 12, as well. Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) led the team with 31 digs. Mikesell (9), Cooper (7) and Amara Hemenway (Bellevue/Bellevue, Ohio) with six also helped out.

Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.) had a team-high five blocks. Mikesell and Reigelsperger each added four.

In the first and fourth sets, Owens produced negative hitting percentages. In the third set, they hit .161. In the only set they won, the team hit .429.

Both of today's teams are in the same district, and they will both be back in action next weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) in the Region XII District E tournament at Owens Community College. Owens will take on St. Clair County Community College at 4 p.m. on Friday, while Columbus State takes on Alpena at 4 p.m.

Notes

Today's hitting percentage was the team's third lowest total of the season, while the eight ball handling errors tied the mark for most this season.
