Louisburg Bats Too Much For Express In 13-5 Loss

Louisburg, NC---The Express baseball team gave up 15 hits and made four errors in a 13-5 loss to No. 3 Louisburg.

The game was scoreless through two before Owens took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third. Trevor Ozenbaugh led off the inning with a double to left field. After a strikeout, Ryan Horvath knocked Ozenbaugh in to put the Express up 1-0. Joe Sickler then doubled to put runners on second and third. Following an RBI groundout by Myles Debol and a walk, the Express pulled off a double steal as Sickler stole home.

Louisburg, however, came back with two in the bottom half, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take a 12-3 lead.

Owens would then score two in the top of the eighth. Horvath walked, Debol singled, and Logan Shullick knocked both in with a double. However, Louisburg answered with one more in the bottom half to produce the final margin.

"Louisburg swung it well today," said Express baseball head coach Del Young. "We did some better things (compared to yesterday), we stole a couple bases, but we weren't able to manufacture enough runs."

Horvath once again produced at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. He is 4-for-6 with four runs and an RBI in two games to start his collegiate career. Shullick also went 2-for-3 with his two RBIs.

Owens finished 9-for-32 at the plate with five walks and nine hits, while Louisburg finished 15-for-40 with 12 hits and four walks.

Zak Esposito pitched five plus innings for Owens and took the loss. Jesse Castilleja, Daniel Heatherly and Alex Juday each pitched one inning in relief.

Esposito's final line included five innings, nine hits, eight runs (six earned), four walks and two strikeouts. Castilleja and Heatherly each allowed two runs, while Juday allowed one unearned run.

Cody Cox got the win on the mound for Louisburg. He went the first seven while allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out five.

Zack Houchins led Louisburg at the plate finishing 3-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs, a double and a home run.

Owens falls to 0-2 this season, while Louisburg remains undefeated at 20-0.
