OCCAC Announces Postseason Men's Basketball Awards

Toledo, Ohio---The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced their postseason awards in men's basketball recently and Owens Community College landed four players on the All-OCCAC team, including two on the first team.

Those two were John Murry (North Central/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Bikramjit Gill (Our Ascension Of The Lord/Toronto, Ontario, Canada), who finished second and third in conference MVP voting, respectively.

Murry finished his stellar freshman campaign just two points behind Cincinnati State's Winston Grays for the league scoring title. He wrapped up the season with 246 points, while averaging 20.5 points per game over 12 conference games.

Gill, a sophomore center, finished the season as the conference's third-best scorer averaging 19 points per game and ending the season fourth in total points with 209. The big man was also effective down low, coming away with 143 rebounds for first in the OCCAC. Gill also led the conference with 35 blocks in the conference season en route to breaking James Kelly's single-season school blocking record (73 total).

Rounding out the all-conference selections are Andy Bachman (North Side/Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Shaakir Lindsey (Teaneck/Teaneck, N.J.).

Bachman, a sophomore forward, earned Second Team All-OCCAC honors after finishing as the 15th best scorer in the OCCAC. He averaged 13.3 PPG and shot 38-for-87 (43.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

Lindsey, a freshman guard, was named Honorable Mention All-OCCAC as he led the conference with 96 assists. The next closest person had 71.

As a team, the No. 10 Express men's team finished with 25-6 overall and 11-1 in conference en route to their first OCCAC title since 2001-02, splitting with No. 1 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

In the district tournament, the Express defeated Sinclair Community College 104-90. In the next game Winston Grays of Cincinnati State dealt a blow to the Express with a buzzer beater to defeat the Express 79-78 in the Region XII District I tournament finals.
