Five in Double Figures as Express Slip Past Clark State

The Owens Men's Basketball win streak kept rolling on Saturday as the Express were able to win on the road 90-87 over Clark State. The Express won with a balanced offensive attack, as they had five players score in double figures. 

Three players finished with 15 points. Marquevious Wilson finished 5-8 from the floor and 3-4 from three. Jamiri Bennett was 4-7 from the floor and 4-6 from beyond the arc, and Justin Sylver was 4-5 from the floor and was an impressive 7-7 from the free throw line. Sylver was also Owens leading rebounder with seven and he had two blocks in the victory. 

Larry Green  had 13 points off the bench. He was scorching from three, finishing 4-6 which amounted for all of his field goal attempts from the floor. Also Dru Pettigrew finished with 12 points on the afternoon. 

The Express trailed at halftime in the game by five points at 48-43, but they used another strong second half, outscoring the Eagles by eight. 

Coupled with Owens's three point barrage was there effort from the free throw line. The Express, who came into the contest shooting 71% from the free throw line, finished 22-24 (92%) from the charity stripe. The team was 27-51 (53%) overall from the field for the game and as mentioned, they had a strong showing from three, shooting 64% (14-22).

Owens moves to 12-7 overall and 6-2 in OCCAC play on the season, The team is in the midst of a five game winning streak. Since December 1, the Express are now 9-3 and they have won seven of their last nine games. Clark State falls to 6-10 overall this season and 2-6 in conference play.

The men will next be in action this coming Wednesday, when they put their win streak on the line against Cuyahoga. Tri-C is currently ranked #1 in Division II of the NJCAA and the Challengers are currently undefeated at 19-0 overall for the season. They also sit atop the OCCAC standings at 7-0 in the conference. The Express will be looking to avenge a 79-61 defeat from back on November 29. Tip-off for the game is slated for 7:30 PM from the SHAC.

Notes:

The Owens Women's team was slated to play against Clark State before the men's game on Saturday. However it was announced that Clark State was canceling the remainder of its women's season on Friday. The women will play against Tri-C on Wednesday as well, with tip-off at 5:30 PM.
