Toledo, Ohio---Bre Buck, the No. 1 starter for state powerhouse Springfield High School, signed with Owens Community College today.

Her signing gives the Express the No. 1 and No. 2 starters on a team that could contend for a state championship this coming spring. Lauren Yates, the No. 2, signed a little over a week ago.

As a junior, Buck went 18-2 with a 1.09 ERA. She had 85 strikeouts in 128 innings pitched. At the plate, she hit .387 with six home runs and 36 RBIs.

In addition to those stats, she was named First Team All-Northern Lakes League (NLL), First Team All-District and First Team All-Ohio. She was also named the team's MVP.

"She hits really well," said Express softball assistant coach Kevin Snyder. "We'll use her as an infielder or outfielder (in addition to pitching)."

As a sophomore, Buck was First Team All-NLL and First Team All-District. That came following a freshman year of Second Team All-NLL and team MVP honors.

In addition to Buck and Yates, the 2014-15 freshmen class also includes Maumee High School's Samantha Fowls, the No. 1 starter for the Panthers, and Cassidy Rolf, a power hitter from Eastwood High School. The trio of Buck, Yates and Fowls combined to make up 60 percent of the top five ERA leaders in the NLL last year.

The 2014 Express softball team is off to a 6-0 start.
