Toledo, Ohio---Michayla Barga, a shortstop from Bradford High School, has become the latest member of the 2015-16 Owens Community College softball recruiting class after signing a letter of intent today.

The 5'5" Bradford, Ohio native played basketball for Cincinnati State Technical and Community College this past season. After averaging 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for them, Barga decided to transfer to Owens and give her softball career another opportunity.

"We're thrilled to have Michayla after a year at Cincinnati State," said Owens Community College head softball coach Marcus Smith. "She realized that softball was more of a love for her, and she will be a tremendous addition to our infield. She's strong offensively and defensively, and she adds another piece to an already strong recruiting class."

At Bradford, Barga was a multi-sport athlete who lettered in softball, basketball and volleyball. She will join the Owens softball program next year with a chance to compete for a starting position at shortop with the departure of sophomore Brittany George.

Barga becomes the 10th member of next year's freshmen class, as she retains freshman eligibility in softball. She will join Jamie Miller (RHP, Clay/Oregon, Ohio), Olivia Myers (2B, Elmwood/Bloomdale, Ohio), Miranda Benschoter (RHP, Elmwood/Bloomdale, Ohio), Taylor Donaldson (RHP, Manton/Manton, Mich.), Brittany Brauer (Util., Manton/Manton, Mich.), Angelique Prunty (C, Elyria/Elyria, Ohio), Jessi Ducat (C, Evergreen/Lyons, Ohio), Taylor Andrews (IF, Oak Hall/Lake Butler, Fla.) and Lindsey Wiggins (1B, Bradford/Brooker, Fla.).

The Owens softball team is currently 31-16 overall. They are coming off Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Region XII District I championships. The team leaves tomorrow for Clinton, Miss. to take part in the 16-team double elimination National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament May 13-16. The team captured the program's 500th win earlier this season, as well.
