Gray, Benschoter Pick Up OCCAC Player, Pitcher of the Week Awards

Toledo, Ohio---Jacey Gray (Springfield/Holland, Ohio), a sophomore outfielder for the Owens Community College softball team, and Miranda Benschoter (Elmwood/Bloomdale, Ohio), a freshman right-handed pitcher for the Owens softball team, have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player and pitcher of the week, respectively, in softball.

Gray went 4-for-9 (.444) with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases in a pair of wins over Heidelberg University last week. In 22 games this year, she is hitting .568 with 25 runs, one double, one triple, 10 RBI, seven walks and 27 stolen bases.

Benschoter, meanwhile, tossed a one-hitter in a 3-1 win over Heidelberg University on April 5. She allowed just one unearned run and five walks while striking out seven. Furthermore, she didn't allow a hit until one out in the seventh.

Overall, Benschoter is 8-4 this year with one save. In 68.1 innings, she has 62 strikeouts and a 2.56 ERA.

The Owens softball team is 17-10 overall and 2-0 in OCCAC play. They will travel to Cuyahoga Community College for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow.
