Duane Lanham recently completed his 11th and final season as head coach of the Owens softball program.

In 2014, Lanham guided the Express to a 27-9 overall record. The team captured the OCCAC championship with an 11-1 record and made an appearance in the Region XII District G tournament.

In 2013, he led the Express to a 24-17 record overall. They finished second in the OCCAC and reached the Region XII District G tournament championship before falling to Kalamazoo Valley. Academically, the team had a 3.31 GPA. In doing so, they had eight players selected to the All-OCCAC Academic Team and four players that earned NJCAA academic honors. Along with the Owens women's volleyball team, they became the first two teams in Owens history to be honored by the NJCAA as national all-academic teams.

In 2012, Lanham coached the Express to the 11th OCCAC championship in the program's history. Overall, the team finished 41-7 and completed the winningest two year stretch in program history. The team finished third in the NJCAA Region XII District G tournament.

In 2011, Lanham almost brought home the first national title in Owens women's sports history. The team went 44-5 and finished as national runner-up after losing to No. 1 LSU-Eunice in the NJCAA Division II National Championship. The Express started 33-0, won the OCCAC title, the Region XII District G championship, tied the school record for most wins in a season, and finished the regular season ranked eighth in the NJCAA D-II poll. Additionally, the team captured the program's 400th win in the national semifinal.

In his 11 seasons at the helm, Lanham compiled a 349-147 overall record, including a 111-19 record in the OCCAC. Additionally, he led the team to eight OCCAC titles, two Region XII titles and two appearances in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. Aside from the runner-up finish in 2011, the team finished fifth at nationals in 2005.

During his time at Owens, Lanham had nine players capture OCCAC Player of the Year honors. Also during his time, he has coached eight OCCAC Pitcher of the Year recipients, 54 First Team All-OCCAC recipients, 22 All-Region XII team players, four NJCAA D-II Athletic All-Americans and 14 NJCAA D-II Academic All-Americans.

Prior to Owens, Lanham compiled 20 years of coaching experience at various levels. He served as the varsity girls softball coach at Sylvania Southview High School for six years prior to joining Owens. He also held positions as Sylvania Girls Fast Pitch Summer Traveling Team coach, Sylvania Southview High School Assistant Varsity Girls Softball Coach and as Hawkins Elementary Girls Softball Coach.

During his tenure at Sylvania Southview, Lanham amassed an overall record of 125-69, capturing two Northern Lakes League titles and advancing twice to the Division I regional finals. His accomplishments include receiving two Northern Lakes League Coach of the Year awards. Lanham also is an active member in his community, serving as President of the Sylvania Fast Pitch Softball Association and holds a membership with the Down and Dirty Fast Pitch Softball Association.

Lanham attended the University of Toledo and is a graduate of Whitmer High School. Duane and his wife, Jackie, resided in Sylvania as of the end of his tenure at Owens.
