Ingram, Ward Come Up Big, No. 6 Owens Routs Henry Ford 100-58

Dearborn, Mich.---Aysah Ingram (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio) produced a season-high 27 points and 13 rebounds off the bench as the No. 6 Owens Community College women's basketball team used a heavy size advantage to rout Henry Ford College 100-58 on the road tonight.

From the opening tip, when Tatyana Reynolds (Rogers/Toledo, Ohio) collected the jump ball and dished to Lakyn Gulley (South Side/Fort Wayne, Ind.) for a fast break layup, Owens dominated the game.

Briana Williams (Stebbins/Dayton, Ohio) followed with a 3-pointer to make it 5-0. Later, an Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) steal and coast-to-coast layup made it 16-4 with 5:38 left in the first period.

Henry Ford trimmed its deficit to five moments later, but Owens closed the first period on a 6-0 run, capped by a last second jumper in the paint from Gulley to take a 24-13 lead through one.

In the first period, five players had at least four points for Owens, led by six from Williams, who was 2-for-2 from long range in the first 10 minutes.

In the second period, Ingram scored 14 of her team's 22 points to help the visitors take a 46-27 lead into halftime. She went 5-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line during that stretch, and she had seven of her 13 rebounds in the period.

A back-and-forth third period saw Owens with the same margin with 3:32 left, but Ingram scored four straight points, Gulley drained a 3-pointer, Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) hit a jumper and Mikayla Ward (Huron/Ypsilanti, Mich.) hit a free throw and a jumper as Owens closed the third period on a 12-3 run to take a 73-45 lead into the final period.

In the fourth, Ingram scored nine of her team's final 11 points, and Bethea hit a running floater from the left side of the hoop with 13 seconds left to help Owens hit the century mark.

Owens made 11 of 23 shots in the final period, while collecting 27 points and 17 rebounds (nine offensive).

Aside from Ingram, Gulley added 15 points, Williams had 12, Ward had 11 and Bethea had 10. Ward (16) and Reese (10) also added double figures in rebounds, while Mekaila Grose (Madison/Mansfield, Ohio) had one of her best games of the season with eight points and eight rebounds on 4-for-6 shooting.

Bethea added five rebounds, five assists and five steals, and Gulley had six rebounds and a team-high six assists. Reynolds and Kyra Johnson (Stevenson/Livonia, Mich.) combined for nine points, five rebounds and five assists.

Keyanna Austin had 25 points for Henry Ford. She was their only player in double figure scoring, although Ariel Walker chipped in nine rebounds.

Owens is now 7-3 overall entering Saturday's rematch with No. 3 Schoolcraft College at 1 p.m. on the road in Livonia, Mich.

Notes

Ward set a new career-high in points today, while tying her career-high in rebounds. She also had 16 rebounds in a Nov. 11 win over Kellogg, and she has three double digit rebounding games now this year.

Ingram finished a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line. She nearly has her rebounding average in double figures, sitting at 9.9 per contest. Today was her third double-double of the season.

Reese picked up her third double figure rebounding game this year.

Grose recorded new season-highs in points, rebounds and field goals made.
