Sarvo's big day leads No. 2 Owens volleyball past Clark State in straight sets

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio --- Alexis Sarvo registered a season-high 11 kills and six blocks to lead the No. 2 Owens Community College women's volleyball team (11-4, 2-1 OCCAC) to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 win over Clark State Community College (2-3, 0-2) on the road Saturday.

Sarvo (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton HS) also produced a season-high in hitting percentage (.786) while matching her best block performance (Aug. 29 vs Waubonsee). In doing so, she pushed her nation-best total to 47 stuffs, which includes 22 of the solo variety.

Offensively, Maddie White finished second on the team with nine kills at a .364 clip. She rounded out a strong all-around performance with a team-high six digs, five blocks and three aces. Taylor Momany (Millbury, Ohio/Lake HS) and McKenna Babcock each chipped in five kills as Owens hit .405 as a team.

Emily Fallis (Toledo, Ohio/Southview HS) led Owens in assists with 17 while also adding a pair of kills and digs. Liz Scheckelhoff (Leipsic, Ohio/Leipsic HS), meanwhile, tacked on a season-best 14 assists.

Sydnie Meinke (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS) matched White's (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS) team-high with three aces while also notching three digs. In total, five players had at least three digs for the Express, including Babcock (Metamora, Ohio/Evergreen HS) and Sydney Alford (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic HS), who each finished second on the team with four apiece.

The Express have now won five of their past six matches. With Saturday's win, they are now 9-0 against Clark State since 2015 while dropping just one set during that stretch. Owens has not lost to them since 2007, although the teams didn't compete against each other from 2008-14.

The Red and White will conclude its road stretch at Lorain County Community College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before returning home Sept. 17-18.

Notes

Friday's match at Lakeland Community College that was postponed has been rescheduled for Oct. 6.
