Babcock's 16 kills help No. 2 Owens volleyball overcome slow start in road win over Lorain County

ELYRIA, Ohio --- McKenna Babcock matched her season-high with 16 kills as the No. 2 Owens Community College volleyball team (12-4, 3-1 OCCAC) overcame a sluggish opening set to produce a 14-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 win over Lorain County Community College last night.

The Express hit -.029 in the opening set with nine errors but responded by compiling .314 and .407 percentages in the second and fourth sets, respectively. They tallied 42 kills with just 15 errors over those final three frames.

Babcock (Metamora, Ohio/Evergreen HS) led all players in kills while hitting .464. She added two digs, two blocks and an ace with a .464 hitting percentage over 28 attempts. It was her sixth double-digit kill performance of the season, and she matched her previous season-high established on Aug. 28 against Kellogg.

Offensively, Maddie White (10) and Taylor Momany (9) combined for 19 kills. Momany (Millbury, Ohio/Lake HS) added two block assists while hitting .364, and White (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS) contributed seven digs.

Jessica Dohm (20) and Emily Fallis (18) combined for 38 of the team's 43 assists. Outside of White's seven, Sydney Alford (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic HS) led the team with 10 digs while Fallis (Toledo, Ohio/Southview HS) added nine. Those three combined for 26 of the team's 35 digs.

Dohm (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton HS) chipped in a pair of block assists, and Sydnie Meinke (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS) had two of the team's four aces. Alexis Sarvo (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton HS) totaled five kills and a solo block.

The Express have now won six of their past seven matches.

Owens and Edison State, who are both knotted at 3-1 in the conference standings, will look to break their tie for second place on Friday at 6 p.m. inside the SHAC. The Red and White will then take on Clark State and Muskegon at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, on Saturday at home.
