2015: Almester earned First Team All-OCCAC, OCCAC Midfielder of the Year, First Team All-Region XII and Region XII All-Tournament team honors as a sophomore. On Oct. 18, he was named the OCCAC offensive player of the week, which led to him being named the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week.

Almester recorded 23 goals and four assists in his final year at Owens. His goal total was the second highest in the region and the 11th highest nationally. His point total was second in the region and 15th in the nation. He started 22 of 23 games.

As a sophomore, Almester had four hat tricks - Sept. 16 vs Lakeland, Oct. 14 vs Lakeland, Oct. 18 vs Mercyhurst North East and Oct. 28 vs Jackson. The hat trick against Jackson was the first postseason hat trick in program history and he totaled four goals in the postseason.

In his two-year career, Almester had 41 goals and eight assists. He left the program fourth in career goals and fourth in career points.

2014: Almester had a team-high 18 goals, along with four assists in a freshman campaign that saw him earn First Team All-OCCAC, OCCAC Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-Region XII honors. He had seven multi-goal games and finished third in the conference in scoring. Following the season, he was named the team's MVP.

Prior to Owens: Almester is a four-year letter winner from St. John's Jesuit High School. He was a member of the soccer team at NCAA Division I Oakland University last year, but redshirted and will be a freshman next year at Owens. 

As a senior at St. John's Jesuit, Almester had 22 goals and 12 assists en route to Division I First Team All-Ohio honors. Additionally, he was named First Team All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC), the TRAC Player of the Year and First Team All-District.

As a junior, Almester scored his team's only two goals in a 2-1 win over Sylvania Southview in the district championship game. He eventually would lead his team to an appearance in the regional finals.

Midway through his senior year at St. John's Jesuit, Almester transferred to Rossford High School, where he graduated.

Personal: Matt is the son of Marty and Jamie Almester. He has two siblings - Bailey and Ryan. He is the cousin of former Owens women's soccer player Aleha Almester (2011).
