Toledo, Ohio---Maxwell Ejiogu, who played for the Morton College men's soccer team last year, has transferred to Owens Community College for his sophomore year.

Last year, while playing every position on the field, Ejiogu was his team's second leading scorer with 14 goals and three assists. His team went 17-2-4 overall, captured the Region IV championship and finished as the runner-up in the district to eventual national runner-up Iowa Western.

Ejiogu produced four multi-goal matches, including a hat trick against Elgin Community College on Sept. 4 and a two goal game against Owens on Sept. 13. Following the season, he was named First Team All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference.

Ejiogu, who is originally from Beauchamps in Essex, United Kingdom, joins six others in this year's incoming class. The others include: Jonah Serna, a left back from Riverdale (Fla.) High School, Kyle Rowan, a goalkeeper from Perrysburg (Ohio) High School, Alexander Renius, a goalkeeper from Bedford (Mich.) High School, Hector Aguirre Jr., a forward from Rossford (Ohio) High School, Akeem McCarthy, an attacking midfielder from Montego Bay, Jamaica and Hakeem Sadler, an attacking midfielder from Greater Portmore, Jamaica.

In addition to those seven players, Jahmall Whittaker (Herbert Morrison Tech/Queens, N.Y.) returns to the team next year. After playing for Owens in the fall of 2013, Whittaker sat out last year.

The Owens men's soccer program finished 12-8-1 last year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region XII tournament. They were ranked as high as No. 17 in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.
