Toledo, Ohio---Ronni VanSteenkiste-Amador, a utility player from Blissfield High School in Blissfield, Mich., has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Owens Community College next year.
Although there have been many players from that region of Michigan to play for Owens throughout the years, she will become the first player in the program's history from Blissfield High School.
"Ronni will definitely boost our team speed next year," said Owens Community College head softball coach Marcus Smith. "In addition to that, she is a versatile player who can play in the outfield and provide us depth at the catching position."
VanSteenkiste-Amador joins Noel Gilley (RHP/1B) of Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville, S.C., Courtney Cadle (SS) of Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., Josie Monroe (C) of Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio, Alexa Schmeltz (3B) from Eastwood High School in Pemberville, Ohio and Mikayla Ludwig (RHP) of Walter Wellborn High School in Anniston, Ala.
VanSteenkiste-Amador has earned All-Lenawee County Athletic Association (LCAA) honors during her time at Blissfield. Academically, she is a National Honor Society student and has traditionally been a 3.5 GPA or above student.
The Owens softball team, which captured Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Region XII championships last year en route to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament appearance, will open its 2016 season March 4-13 in Florida. They are scheduled to play 20 games during the trip.
